Work at Chance Creek Blues

Work on an Organic Blueberry Farm near Oberlin for Summer 2022

Chance Creek Blues Organically Grown Blueberry Farm is seeking 1 farm worker for summer 2022 to do farmwork in exchange for room and board. This is essentially “woofing” but we are not advertising nationally because we prefer to offer the opportunity specifically to Oberlin College students. Chance Creek has used organic practices for over 20 years. Blueberries are ready to pick in late June and harvests continue into early August. We are seeking a person to stay in our home (well-lit basement room with separate bathroom and separate entrance) and work a variety of tasks including: weeding by hand and with string trimmers, mowing using standard lawn tractors, helping to control pests, selling berries in our pick-your-own stand, picking berries for Oberlin vendors, monitoring and removing poison ivy from bushes as needed, mulching, and other tasks. Number of hours will vary from around 12-25 per week and there is flexibility for many tasks. U-Pick times are high-need events; take place 2-3 times per week from around 8-11AM and/or 4-7pm and will vary based on weather and ripening.

If you want to learn more about organic farming practices, if you enjoy eating blueberries every day, like to be out in the sun and don’t mind some hard work, you will enjoy this opportunity to experience farm work IRL. We have cats and dogs in the house. Though the pets can be kept out of the dedicated space for the farm worker, highly allergic individuals may have difficulty. We are a vegetarian family and prefer no smoking on the premises.

Our Farm is 10 miles northwest of Oberlin, next door to Chance Creek swimming hole! There are nice bike rides around and regular trips into Oberlin if worker doesn’t have a car.

Ideal start time is June 10 and the subsequent 8 weeks.  Preference given to individuals who are highly motivated, fun to be around and willing to work hard. Some prior farmwork experience helpful, prior work with standard lawncare machines (mowers, weedwackers) and good recommendations.
